Installation of a new Herkules Work Roll Grinder
Union Electric Steel’s commitment to provide our customers with the highest value roll product available continues with the commission of a new HERKULES WS 600 x 6000 CNC Monolithtm work roll grinder in our Carnegie Machine Shop.
Installed in July 2011, this fully automated CNC controlled grinder represents UES’s endless pursuit of manufacturing the best product in the industry. This new state-of-the-art grinder provides impressive advantages, including:
Enhanced precision and tighter tolerances to grind work rolls to 0.0025 mm (0.0001”) TIR, and 0.002 mm/m cylindricity between machine centers without the need to support the roll on pads. Finishes down to 0.02 – 0.05 µm (Ra) are achievable. Critical part lengths are easily verified with the Renishaw touch probe, supported by a Heidenhain scale with 0.001 mm resolution for positional accuracy in the Z-axis. When paired with the WFL M120 Multi-Task Machining Center, this grinder creates a powerful machining cell for work rolls that enables Union Electric Steel to achieve the best possible finishing tolerances.
Increased reliability through the use of the HCC/KPM 10 grinding machine control. When utilizing the integrated measuring caliper system, fully automatic grinding is possible. This reduces manual operator measurements of the work piece and optimizes quality and on-time delivery. We encourage you to stop in and see for yourself the advancements Union Electric Steel is making, like the new Herkules work roll grinder, throughout our facilities in the United States and United Kingdom.
Please give us a call to schedule a plant tour. We will be proud to show you what makes Union Electric Steel the recognized leader in the forged and cast roll industry.
